IDB 2025- Unveiling the Logo

IDB Logo 2025

This year the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB), celebrated on 22 May, is dedicated to the linkages between the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The goal of the campaign is to advocate for accelerated action: 2030 is the deadline the world agreed for the implementation of both the SDGs and the KMGBF targets.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity has developed a dedicated logo, which serves as the visual embodiment of the theme of IDB 2025. Here are three elements that tell the story behind the iconography.

1.     The weaving motif

The colorful threads mix and intertwine to form a single fabric. This symbolizes the way the implementation of the SDGs and the KMGBF targets should be approached: elements of the same vision where people live in harmony with nature and where sustainable development leaves no one behind.

2.    The color palette

The colors of the thread borrow from the SDG icons and the KMGBF brand. The creative process blended these colors to express a seminal, widely recognized idea: the well-being of people must not come at the expense of biodiversity and ecosystems that sustain all life on Earth. Improving people’s lives and protecting ecosystems are part of the same endeavor and should be pursued as such.

3.    The shape

The circular shape is inspired by the SDG Wheel and the globe at the heart of the KMGBF brand. That is the shape of the planet we call home; the only planet we have. At a time when humankind grapples with the crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution and waste, IDB provides an opportunity to reflect on our common future and on what must be done to meet the defining challenge of the 21st century: making peace with nature.
